Non woven, recycled or cotton
Non woven polypropylene is the standard event tote: cheap, light, printable across a large area, and strong enough for conference material. It is not a bag people keep for years. Recycled non woven and RPET versions carry the same practical qualities with post consumer content, which matters if the bag supports a sustainability message. Cotton and canvas cost more and print differently, but they are the only versions that survive repeated washing and heavy loads, and they are what people actually reuse for groceries.
The gusset tells you what fits
A flat tote with no gusset holds paper and a laptop and nothing else. A five inch gusset takes a normal grocery shop. An eight inch gusset handles bulky items and boxed goods. Bag dimensions in this range are given as width by height by gusset, so read the third number before you choose, because a bag that looks large in a photo can be flat.
Handle length is the other overlooked measure. Short handles are hand carry only. If you want the bag over a shoulder while someone holds a coffee and a phone at a trade show, check that the handle drop clears a winter coat.
Print area and method
Totes take screen printing and spot color for solid logos, full color for photographic artwork, and flexo ink on kraft paper styles. The printable panel is large, which tempts people into filling it. A bag with a modest logo gets carried into a supermarket; a bag that is a full bleed advertisement usually does not. If the goal is repeat exposure rather than one day at an event, print smaller than you think.
