Insulated or not
An insulated jug keeps water cold through a shift, which is the entire point for anyone working outdoors in summer. Vacuum insulated stainless holds temperature longest; foam-insulated plastic jugs cost far less and still help.
Uninsulated plastic jugs are cheap and fine for a gym bag that lives indoors.
The details that matter at this size
A handle is essential. A gallon of water is heavy and a jug without a proper grip is carried once.
The lid decides usability: a wide mouth takes ice, a straw or spout lid lets someone drink without lifting the whole jug, and a leak-proof seal matters because a leaking gallon jug in a vehicle is a memorable problem.
Check that the jug fits in a standard refrigerator shelf, since many do not.
