Chisel tip, gel, or clear view
A chisel tip gives both a broad stroke and a fine edge, which is why it is standard. The tip quality decides everything: a soft tip flattens and smears within weeks.
Gel highlighters apply a waxy stick rather than ink. They do not bleed through thin paper and do not dry out if left uncapped, which makes them the better choice for bibles, ledgers, and cheap paper stock.
Clear view designs have a window in the tip so the user sees the text as they mark it, which sounds like a gimmick and is genuinely useful.
Multi-color barrels
Three to five colors in one barrel deliver more perceived value than a single highlighter for a small increase in cost, and they suit students and anyone who color-codes. They also offer a longer barrel, which means a larger imprint area.
Decoration and audience
Pad printing and screen printing cover the barrel in brand colors. The imprint band is narrow, so keep to the logo and a short line.
Highlighters suit schools and universities, training sessions and conferences, law and accountancy firms, medical and pharmaceutical audiences, and any onboarding pack.
