Custom Pens Printed with Your Logo
Pens are the workhorse of promotional merchandise: cheap enough to hand out by the case, useful enough that people keep them on a desk for months. The range here runs from plastic click and stick models built for trade show volume through metal barrels suitable for executive gifts and client thank-yous.Before you choose, settle three things: the writing system your recipients expect, the decoration method your logo can survive, and whether the barrel needs to be recycled content for a sustainability program. The sections below the range explain each one.

Ballpoint, gel or stylus
Ballpoint is the default and the safest choice for giveaways. The ink is oil based, it does not dry out in a drawer, and it survives being posted in an envelope or left in a hot car. Gel writes more smoothly and shows up better on darker paper, which is why it suits notebooks and journals, but the cartridge empties faster and the ink can smear for a second after writing. A stylus tip adds a second use for anyone working on a tablet or a point of sale screen, and is worth the extra cost mainly when your audience actually uses touch devices at work.
Click and twist mechanisms feel more considered than a capped stick pen and there is no cap to lose, but they add moving parts. For an event where pens are handed out in the hundreds and not expected to last a year, a stick pen is the honest choice.
Choosing a decoration method
Most plastic barrels here are decorated by silk screen or screen print, which lays down one or two solid colors and holds a crisp edge. Full color and four color process wraps reproduce gradients and photographic marks. Laser engraving is used on metal, where it cuts through the finish to the base material and cannot rub off.
One thing worth knowing before you approve a proof: a pen barrel gives you a print area roughly the width of a finger, curved in both directions. Full color looks impressive in a mockup, but hairline rules and type under about six points fill in once they are printed at that size on a curve. If your logo has fine detail or a thin wordmark, a single color silk screen usually reads better on the finished pen than a four color wrap does. Ask for the print area dimensions before committing to artwork, not after.
Recycled and refillable options
A large part of this range is made from recycled plastic or RPET drawn from post consumer bottles, and there are barrels in cork and bamboo for programs that want a visibly natural material. Recycled content is a genuine talking point in a sustainability report, but be aware that a recycled barrel with a standard non refillable cartridge is still a disposable item. If the goal is to reduce waste rather than to describe it, look for a refillable model and tell recipients it can be refilled, because most people assume a promotional pen cannot be.
Pairing pens with other items
Pens rarely go out alone. The most common pairings are a pen with a journal or a notebook for onboarding packs and conference bags, and a pen with a notepad for desk sets. If you need a marking tool rather than a writing one, see highlighters and markers. For touch screen use without ink, there are dedicated styluses, and for schools and family events pencils are usually the better fit.
Ordering and artwork
Send vector artwork where you can, ideally an EPS or AI file with type converted to outlines. A high resolution PNG will work for a full color wrap but not for a one color screen, where the artwork has to be separated into a single solid shape. Every order here gets a virtual proof before production begins, so you will see the logo placed on the actual barrel before anything is printed. If you are unsure which model suits your artwork, send us the logo and the quantity you have in mind and we will come back with two or three options that will hold the detail.
