Scarf or gaiter
A knit scarf is the traditional format and reads as a gift, particularly paired with a beanie in a set.
A tube gaiter is more versatile: it works as a neck warmer, a headband, a face covering, or a hair tie, and it takes full color printing across the whole surface. For active audiences it is the more useful item by a clear margin.
Yarn and decoration
Acrylic is warm and inexpensive; wool blends feel better and breathe. Check the yarn for itch on a sample, because a scratchy scarf worn against the neck is not worn twice.
