Quarter-zip is the corporate default
The quarter or half zip has become the standard corporate layer because it looks deliberate rather than casual, it works over a collared shirt, and it suits a wide age range. If you are ordering one item for a mixed professional audience, this is the safest choice in apparel.
Crewnecks read more casual and are preferred by younger audiences and for team and campus programs.
Knit sweaters are the most formal option and suit hospitality, front-of-house, and senior staff.
Fabric
French terry is lighter, breathes well, and looks more refined than brushed fleece, which makes it right for indoor wear. Brushed fleece is warmer and softer inside. Microfleece is light and warm and is the usual choice for a performance pullover.
